Tomato Cultivars for Beginner Gardeners

There are so many people out there who want to start gardening, then these individuals end up buying temperamental vegetable/fruit seeds, get frustrated with the certain care these seeds need and all together abandon gardening from this bad experience. I have found and recorded various tomato cultivar so that I could make this Beginner Gardeners Tomato Cultivar List.

Organic Italian Roma Tomatoes

Roma Tomato - Fast Germination. Can yield up to twenty tomatoes at a time. Took seventy days for first mature fruit.

Super Sweet 100 Cherry Tomato - Fast Growth. Full half-dollar sized fruit. Took fifty-five days for first mature fruit.

Yellow Pear Tomato - Fast Germination. Pear-shaped fruit the size of ones thumb. Took sixty days for first mature fruit.

Organic German Heirloom Tomato

German Heirloom Tomato - Average Growth. Pinkish hue. Great size and best as a slicing tomato, in my opinion. Took sixty-five days for first full fruit.

Organic Cherokee Purple Tomato

Cherokee Purple Tomato - Fast Germination. Average sized slicing tomato. Purple hue to flesh. Took seventy-seven days for first full fruit.

 * I used dead plant matter, sand, compost and manure for my soil base and re-mulched every other month.

All of these cultivar take little effort to keep alive. All you need is a timer for your watering system and to prune them every other week. Remember this is all just a little bit of your time for amazing healthy organic food you grew for your loved ones and yourself. Not only will you feel accomplished growing your own food but you can also make your garden a place to hang out in your back yard. Which is pretty cool because then you get to show your friends/family how simple gardening is and the fruits of your ridiculously easy labour. Thanks again for reading my posts, follow/ subscribe for future updates.
Until next time my fellow green thumbs...

Organic Indoor French Radish: End of Week 5

Organic Indoor French Radish

Another week and more growth to show for these beautiful delicious little morsels. I cannot believe time has gone by this fast, I mean look! Each radish bulb seems to be wanting to come up from the soil. I went and looked over all of the weekly and bi-weekly photos I have taken of these Organic French Radishes over the past five weeks. Truly, I am amazed at what nature is. This proves that life is everywhere we look and we can help maintain these precious lives so that future generations know what they are and how they came to be. These radishes have grown and shown me that even with a little help, the outcome can be magnificent.

Organic Indoor French Radish

You can see here that these little red devils are about ready for harvesting. I would say about four or five more days until I pluck these little mouth-watering organic french radishes. As soon as I pluck these I am going to sow more radish seeds and I am thinking about sowing two different radish cultivar seeds together in the same pot, which will give me a choice of which type of radish I would like to use that particular day after I harvest and store them properly.

Next post will hopefully be on a harvest video for these wonderful little guys. Thanks again for staying with my grow log and seeing how little effort it takes to grow your own organic healthy food. Subscribe/follow me for future updates and videos! Until next time fellow gardeners....

Organic Indoor Spinach and Swiss Chard: End of Week 5

 Organic Indoor Bloomsdale Spinach

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to have this spinach plant growing. I love spinach. I would eat spinach every day if I could, I did not grow enough spinach to last me throughout this years winter unfortunately. But the only way we learn is through trial and error, so through my error I now know to start saving and storing my spinach a couple of weeks earlier for next winter. Bloomsdale spinach is an insanely fast reproducing spinach cultivar, I believe this cultivar should be a staple in every novice gardeners' garden. This plant usually will start fully producing around the fifty-fifth day after germination in my personal experience. This is the only spinach cultivar I have grown since I started gardening and I actually am going to try out a new spinach cultivar this spring in my organic outdoor garden, so be on the look out for those future posts and YouTube videos!

Organic Indoor Flamingo Pink Swiss Chard

I cannot believe that my fiancees' cat decided to eat all of my swiss chard sproutlings I had previously growing in this container you see here. After planting new seeds about two weeks ago, we are at this stage yet again. But at least the growth rate and germination rate are extremely fast and ideal for the average garden. I am excited to try this plant, I always heard its similar to kale but has its own taste. It's always fun to try something new and exotic!

Thanks again for following and reading my grow-posts, it means the world to me. Let me know what your favourite veggie or fruit is, and maybe I can tell you how to grow it! Until next time friends....

Organic Indoor Salad Greens: End of Week 5

Organic Indoor Eros Escarole

One cannot describe how amazing it feels to know that I, with my own hands, have brought this plant to life from seed with the use of knowledge I have obtained through trial and error. This seed was extremely fast during the germination stage and had a steady growth rate throughout its life. This cultivar to me is a must grow salad green to accompany other leafy greens in whatever salad you decide to make. This growth is amazing considering this is one of the plants my cat decided to eat.

Organic Indoor Giant Caesar Lettuce

Another one of the plants my cat thought belonged to him and his stomach. Yet look at the regrowth and how yummy these leafy greens look. I always grow this leafy salad green just because of the taste and how well this salad holds dressing whilst not getting soggy. This green I would say is about a third of the way to full maturity. Each head will be quite compact and wide. I am looking forward to sharing its full maturity with you fine folks, the pictures will be phenomenal!

Organic Indoor Gourmet European Mesclun Salad Mix

These Gourmet European Mesclun Salad Mix leafy greens are about to mature in a day or so and be ready for my fiancee and I to have a little salad snack. These greens usually are done between twenty seven to thirty five days after germination. I will always regrow this cultivar of mesclun just because of the fact of continual harvest, which is extremely possible and highly recommended to do with the majority of mesclun cultivars.

Another week, and more growth to show for it. I cannot wait to share a harvest video of salad greens with you fine folks. Which will come round soon enough! Thanks again for reading and following my posts, it means so much to me. Until next time friends....

Organic Indoor Tomatoes and Peppers: End of Week 5

Organic Indoor Tomatoes

Another week has gone by and another picture that shows the various tomatoes I have planted growth. This is truly satisfying, recording a grow-log and sharing it with you fine folk so you can see the joys and wonder of gardening. There is no way I would ever give this hobby and lifestyle of mine up for anything. The rewards are beneficial and in the long run I get to learn something new everyday about each plant and each of their cultivars. So far I have learned that these tomatoes will rapidly grow if there is a substantial amount of light. Also that no matter how sunny it is that if these tomato plants get too hot, they will wither and die. So in order to protect these lovely plants, later on I will be covering my Outdoor Organic Garden with a layer of Burlap Cloth so that the plants can get enough beneficial shade and still thrive in the deserts burning sun.

Organic Indoor Peppers

These pepper plants are already trying to start to flower even though I have not thinned them out and transplant them into their own individual Solo Cup. Each plant's stalk is incredibly thick and flexible even though they have only been growing for about five full weeks. Which is a great sign and shows that this plant will be healthy and hopefully hold up all of its' crop when it produces. All of these peppers I am growing are going to be specifically grown for my family. Sometimes I give out free extra crop to my neighbors and friends when my immediate family cannot finish it all before the crop spoils. Hopefully these pepper plants will keep a nutritious and fast reproduction rate when they start producing beautiful yummy peppers for me to pick. I will definitely set aside a few of each pepper to see how they handle being turned into a spice.

Hopefully you will want to start planting a vegetable plant or two and give gardening a try. Thanks again for reading my posts, it means so much to me. Leave me a comment if you have any questions, recommendations for plants to grow, or just want to chat. Until next time friends....

Organic Indoor Herbs: End of Week 5

Organic Indoor Herbs

Yet another week has passed and my indoor garden is extremely aromatic due to the flowering and budding herbs that have been growing in there for the past five weeks. These herbs are completely relentless when it comes to growing, no wonder most people only recognize them as "weed-like" in their growth rate. I cannot begin to explain how amazing these herbs smell. The aroma is incredible, it is pretty much just having live potpourri. Everything I currently am growing is going to start to mature before I actually put it out in my outdoor garden because I want to have some living plants already to go when the last frost ends. If I timed everything right I should be having a continual harvest each week, which I am hoping I got right!

It is always a brilliant idea if you are the home cook to maybe look into the idea of growing your own herbs, since buying them frequently can be quite costly in the long run. Not only will growing your own herbs let you have your very own herb paradise but it will also teach you about the herbs you are using in your recipes. To me it is important to know what you are eating and where it has come from. This is why I will always promote and grow everything I consume myself.

Thanks again for reading my grow-log and staying up-to-date. Give gardening a try, maybe it will be a stress relief or your new hobby. Until next time folks....

Organic Outdoor Winter Kale and Parsley

Organic Outdoor Red Russian Kale

I have been using the "cut and come again" technique I believe about four times now, and you can see the re-growth results on this plant here which has reproduced with fully nutritional leafy greens ready for the picking. This was the first cultivar of kale I grew when I started gardening so long ago. Kale is a very versatile leafy green that can be used in a variety of different culinary uses and different types of cuisine (i.e. European, American, English, Asian). The re-growth rate of this specific cultivar, for me at least, is about a week to a week and a half. Which is perfect for me because I use kale quite frequently for various favourite dishes of mine, such as ramen and baked chips. Kale is an extremely easy plant and grows throughout the winter, if you cover them with burlap as I did which keeps them warm and lets them mature but at a slower rate.

Organic Outdoor Giant Italian Parsley

Parsley is a staple in our house hold, and I am sure it is a staple in many other house holds as well. This plant hold so extremely well in frost condition and throughout winter. This plant was the only thing left thriving in one of my outdoor raised garden beds. This cultivar is an extremely easily grow and holds up to anything, I would definitely recommend first time gardeners to grow this specific cultivar, because its so extremely easy to maintain and grow.

This goes to show that there are some veggies and herbs out there that will thrive in winter conditions. Thanks again for reading and following/subscribing to my social media, it means so much to me and I always follow back! Until next time friends...

Outdoor Organic Onion Patch

Organic Outdoor Onion Patch

I have been growing onions in this patch for well over a year now. These onions you see in the photo above are my third cycle of onions I have planted from seed. The total cost for me for growing my onions fails in to compare how much I spend on onions. Every onion I have planted has smelled and tasted like no onion I have ever had before. Growing onions yourself is an amazing treat, especially since my household uses onions in pretty much every other dish. So far I have only grown Wallah Wallah Onions and French Grey Shallots, which I grew twice in a row. Overall, I will always grow new organic onion cultivars as long as I can get my green hands on them. ^^

Organic Outdoor Cippolina Onions

I love stews and soups, you'd know that if you are a constant reader of my posts. These Cippolina onions are just the perfect stew and soup onion ever grown, in my opinion of course. Cippolina onions are small, but nonetheless take the same amount of time to grow as a medium sized onion. The one thing about these onions I love to do with is to make a little bowl out of it then fill it with zucchini and peppers and roast it in the oven till it is browned. That makes a yummy one bite snack!

Organic Outdoor Italian Red Torpedo Onions

Italian Red Torpedo onions to me, make the perfect addition to any salad because of the intense onion flavour and crunch they have to offer everyone's palette. I decided to grow these onions because I cannot find them at any market I have been to as of yet and because they are a pretty onion to grow.  I am assuming that these onions will be full matured by the middle of March, which is the time for perfect weather to start to eat outdoors!

Organic Outdoor English Leeks

My Fiancee has had me hooked on English Leeks for the longest time. We both tried leeks raw together in a delicious salad from a restaurant in England, which lead us to our leek addiction today. My Fiancee will also use these delicious cultivar of leeks in her version of potato and lee soup which I will hopefully talk her into posting a video or a blog on that specific recipe.

Well I hope you enjoy eating onions so much that hopefully you'll think about growing your own onions to eat for your family or yourself. Thanks again for reading and following/subscribing to my various social media accounts. Until next time folks....

Indoor Organic Potted Veggie Plants: End of Week 4

Organic Flamingo Pink Swiss Chard

Another week has gone by and more progress has been shown for each individual plant! Unfortunately my "vegetarian" cat ate the majority of my Flamingo Pink Swiss Chard sproutlings, which gave me no choice but to plant some more seeds. These are those seeds and are about a week old. So their growth is actually pretty decent. I'm hoping these will be ready for transplanting with my other plants.

Organic Lacinato "Dinosaur" Kale

What a pretty texture that is developing on these Lacinato or Dinosaur Kale. I love eating and growing kale, it's just easy to grow and incredibly versatile culinary ingredient. This cultivar is one of my top choices for kale, and will continue to be until another cultivar knocks it out of the park. I use my spinach soil mixture for my kale plants which has lots of nitrogen in it.

Organic Bloomsdale Spinach

What can I say? Ever since I saw Popeye as a boy I HAD to have spinach. This spinach is one of my favourites because it isn't very picky and works well in both my outdoor and indoor organic gardens. This spinach usually takes about sixty days for me to fully mature but I have heard and read peoples' posts/comments stating they have had it fully mature at day fifty-five. Just remember any spinach thrives off of nitrogen, so make sure to have lots of manure to spare!

Organic Tronchuda Kale

Yet again another kale! This kale I am growing specifically for culinary use in stocks, stews and soups. This kale cultivar derives from Portugal, and is known for its use in Portuguese Soup. You are looking at about 3 weeks of actual growth since I got the seeds from Baker Creek Farms quite late. But overall this plant is a real producer and has excellent growth rate. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to grow kale! You cannot find this cultivar in your average market either.

That is it for this weeks indoor organic potted plants, be on the look out for future posts/videos on gardening and adventuring! Thanks again for following and reading my posts, I am glad I get to share my grow-log with you fine people. Until next time...

Indoor Organic Radishes: End of Week 4

Organic French Radishes
Completely unbelievable that it is already been twenty-one days since germination for these organic french radishes I am currently growing in my indoor garden. I am using a five gallon pot, which gives me about six or so radishes that will be fully mature and delicious. I chose these radishes specifically for salads and for my favourite, makes me feel so good inside, dish ramen. I just cannot find myself eating a bowl of ramen without radishes in it somehow. If there aren't any radishes in it, then I do not consider it a proper ramen.

Like I said these french radishes have been growing for twenty-one days and truly have shown their growth. I believe it will be the end of January when these guys will be fully mature and ready for me to make a little harvesting video with a recipe included!

Radishes can be one of the easiest starter plants to grow if you are a first timer wanting to grow your own food. These guys take little maintenance and require not that much water. I water mine every two days since they are in a controlled environment. I use the same soil mix is use for my tomatoes on my radishes. Just be careful about over-watering and letting the bulb of the radish unearth early! You can just cover it with extra soil to avoid this worry.

Well thanks again for following my grow-log. It's been fun sharing my plants with you fine people. Follow/subscribe for future updates and follow/subscribe on my various social media. I always follow back! Until next time...

Organic Indoor Herbs: End of Week 4

 Organic Indoor Herbs

It is completely ridiculous to walk into my indoor garden because with your first step in, all you smell are the fresh herbs I have been nurturing since they were seeds. And I would do the whole process over and over again, because it is incredible. I am currently going to expand my culinary herbs and tea herbs so I can teach and share my knowledge of these precious little plants. There are so many uses, culinary wise and medicinal wise, for these herbs to be used that it is truly mind boggling. There are countries and villages all over the world that still use natural medicine over today's pharmaceuticals.

Organic Indoor Herbs

Each and every herb I grow is extremely special to me because I first started tending an herb garden when I was an extremely young boy with my grandfather and uncles. So to me it is more than just a hobby it is a moment of time I love to enjoy with my loved ones, friend or family. It is an extremely useful thing, growing your own culinary herbs. I never find myself running to the market for the ever so forgotten cooking herbs that are always left once we rush out of the store.

Thank you guys for reading my grow-log and following it as well. It is always an amazing thing to share my passion for gardening with you, the world. Keep a look out for my future posts, I will be blogging like a mad-man soon enough! It's been awesome to share my thoughts and information with you good folk. Until next time....

Indoor Organic Tomatoes and Peppers: End of Week 4

Organic Indoor Peppers

These guys are just looking more crowded by the week! I really need to separate them and put each plant in its own cup so the roots can fully develop before I need to transplant them in my outdoor organic garden. It is always critical to choose amazing cultivars of whatever vegetable or fruit you are planning on growing. I chose these for the size and flavour each different plant has to offer me as its gardener. I always find myself looking for a little bit of heat for whatever I am usually eating, so I thought why not grow some jalapenos because they have a good heat and are a great addition to majority of dishes. That is one example of why we should all grow what we like to eat. It's extremely convenient and a huge money saver in the long run.

Organic Indoor Tomatoes

So on to my tomatoes, I chose these guys for diversity as well as for flavour. These guys are sure to pack a punch on any palette, this is my first time growing Blue Beauty tomatoes from Wild Boar Farms and all I have heard/read about it are amazing things. I cannot have a garden without any tomatoes thriving in it. It is just a taboo for me. I use tomatoes for a load of recipes which range for any time of the day. After I started growing tomatoes, I refused to eat any of the tomatoes that were sold at the markets. The difference in taste was undeniable. Fresh grown tomatoes are on a whole different level than the ones we see everyday. For this delicacy you truly need to grow your own tomatoes. I chose on growing the Roman tomatoes again just because I cannot get enough of them.

I hope you guys enjoyed this weeks update, stay tuned for my weekly updates. Until next time friends...

Indoor Organic Salad Greens: End of Week 4

Organic Eros Escarole
It's been quite a great week since my last post. All of my plants have been progressing at a really steady rate and my room just looks incredible. Even after that blasted cat thinking that my plants are just his personal all you can eat salad bar. That was the only setback I had this time around in my organic indoor garden. I am hoping these plants will be ready for harvest in another two weeks or so. That would be my ideal harvest period. Other than that these plants are looking extremely healthy!

 Organic Giant Caesar Lettuce
I did not want to waste the space and thin out the two other lettuce heads forming in this pot. I thought, "Why not let them grow and see how much I can get out of a fully mature harvest, maybe even enough for a salad for two!" So I am going to do just that, let them grow and see when it is harvest time if I have indeed grown a decent amount of greens in one little pot.

Organic Gourmet European Mesclun Salad Mix

These little guys were throwing me off for a little bit, literally over night these guys had a growth spurt. At first I thought my crop was not healthy and just going to curl up and die. But the latter happened, which I am extremely thankful for. These mesclun are just about ready to be harvested and I am definitely going to use the "cut and come again" method to see the reproduction rate on these specific cultivar.

I couldn't help myself, so I ripped off a piece of Giant Caesar Lettuce and started snacking whilst taking these photos for you guys to see. The leaf was so crunchy and it isn't even fully mature yet so I'm really excited to share that harvesting moment with you guys later on.

I thank you again for following/subscribing to my posts and my social media outlets, remember I always follow back! Be on the look out for future grow-posts and other media I put out. Until next time....

We Started Vlogging!

You guys should totally check out my fiancee and my newest YouTube channel, it's a vlogging channel. That is right! We are vlogging our everyday extraordinary lives and sharing it with you nice folks. I've always had the idea to film our day and post it to YouTube, but we are finally doing it!

We decided to go on a hike with one of our good friends. The plan was to hike close to Red Rock, which is a portion of Calico Basin. The first thirty minutes or so of the hike was completely uphill at a forty-five degree angle, and it was ridiculously rough. Once we reached the peak of our trail, the rest of the hike was a breeze. Every single step we took was exhilarating as if we were the first ones discovering the trail and making our mark in history. Each mountain and rock face was incredibly beautiful in its own way. At certain parts of the hike I felt like I needed to take off my shoes and just go barefoot the rest of the way because of not having any grip whatsoever on my nike high-tops.

Once we got back to the car we were all exhausted, but we also felt very accomplished and satisfied with our hike. This little adventure brought to me many hopes about people getting back into nature because it is just so damn breath-taking. I hope our video instills a little bit of adventure in you and courage to step out that door. Thanks again for reading and be sure to follow me for all of my future updates! Until next time....

Just received my new seed parcel from Johnny's Seeds!

I decided to buy more seeds for second spring crop and could not resist checking out a website I have not used that has an amazing selection of products and wonderful customer reviews, www.johnnyseeds.com.

Their selection of seeds is incredible! There are so many different crop cultivars to choose from, that it is quite dizzying. Because of this diversity, I decided to get some seeds that I have never had the chance to grow before. It took me quite some time on my decisions, but I am completely ecstatic about them.

My first decision was on some tea plants, I decided to go with the true floral tea route and I purchased some Lavender and Chamomile. I'll start first with the lavender, which has to be one of my nostalgic childhood smells. The lavender cultivar I purchased was called Munstead, which is supposedly like the standard English lavender, which is what I grew up with. This cultivar will start to flower usually after the second year, you're really lucky if it flowers the first! Munstead Lavender flowers blooming colour ranges from light blue to purple. For my chamomile cultivar choice, I picked Roman Chamomile which is a low growing version of the regular chamomile. Roman Chamomile can be used just the same as any other chamomile cultivar, including for fresh tea.

For my main crop decisions, I chose different cultivars of tomato, broccoli and shallots. For the tomato cultivar I chose Lucky Tiger, a red tomato with green stripes. Supposedly has a sweet and tart flavour when ripe. The broccoli cultivar I chose was De Cicco, which is a traditional Italian heirloom that produces small broccoli heads about 3-4 inches in length. It can be planted in spring or fall, so it's possible for a year long harvest. My final choice was a shallot cultivar called Camelot. I love shallots and I use them quite frequently. This specific cultivar is a purple colour and in my personal opinion more pungent than the white cultivars of shallots.

All I can say is I am truly happy with the result of this seed company and I'm looking forward to growing these seeds. I am going to plant these guys soon and make a video on my planting routine. Keep an eye out for that! Thanks again guys for staying along and reading my grow posts, it is a pleasure. Organic Winter Kale

Organically Grown Kale: Red Russian & Lacinato "Dinosaur"
There has been a craze about kale being delicious and nutritious, which is completely true. I've been growing kale ever since I started gardening and it is quite addicting. There are so many different cultivars of kale from the average kale you will see in your everyday market. Which all taste extremely amazing in stews, soups, broiled, as chips or side dishes.

Organically Grown Red Russian Kale

I have two cultivar of kale growing in my garden this winter, which are obviously a winter-hardy crop. Both kales' have always had a great reproduction rate when using the "cut and come again" method. They are being grown in my outdoor raised garden beds currently and are about 56 days into growth from germination.

I will continue to keep growing different cultivars of every type of edible plant out there, so that these plants will not go extinct. Each of these cultivars are special and original in their own way that is unmistakable for anyone to miss.

Organically Grown Lacinato "Dinosaur" Kale

It would be an amazing thing if everyone started growing some of the food the consume. As for me, I will continue growing and providing my family and friends with healthy exotic food that you can only get fresh from growing it yourself. Until next time folks.....

Cats

I do not know about you, but I am a cat lover. We saved our first cat from a local animal shelter almost 7 years ago now. When we went to the shelter to look for kittens, my fiancee was looking at a cat with three legs when all of a sudden this cat outstretched his paws to touch her cheeks. Which completely won her over on the spot, she had to have that specific cat. This cat was just skin and bones when we adopted him, the people at the shelter told us they found him in a dumpster a week before we found him as a new companion for our lives. It took us a little while to come up with the name Beauregard, Beau for short of course! This cat was so famished, once we got back home he ate a bit of KFC Chicken. He's a hilarious, cuddly cat that just wants to sleep around all day and rub up against you.

Cats are probably the best pet for anyone to have, who doesn't want a purring kitty on their chest when you are trying to fall asleep? If you are having a bad day or you don't feel well, you are in luck! Cats notice when people do not feel well and make it a point to change the way their master's feel. Or if you are an insomniac and just can't find the right method to fall asleep? Well maybe a purring kitty nesting on a blanket on top of you would put you straight off to bed.

I do not know about you but I for sure will keep having my cute and cuddly furry companions throughout my life. Most of my time will probably be spent chasing Beau out of my garden, he thinks he's a vegetarian you see. But I still love him.

Organic Indoor Salad Greens: End of Week 3

Organically Grown Gourmet European Salad (Mesclun) Mix

It's always an amazing thing when you can grow a full salad mix in a little over a month. Gourmet salad mixes can be quite pricey, but with growing your own salad mix in a pot it is at least 300% cut in cost. It's that magnificent, you only just have to have some patience and a little bit of knowledge. I use the same soil I would for my spinach as I do with all of my leafy greens. Greens love to thrive of lots of amounts of nitrogen, which can be found in most manure composts. These leafy greens will be done within a week or two. Be on the look out for a video on my mesclun harvest!

Organically Grown Eros Escarole

I was so upset, I left my indoor garden door open because the room was started to get a little bit hot. I come back in the morning to find a cooled down room, and some of my leafy green crop eaten by my fat vegetarian cat. The worst thing is this cat has no shame. Within minutes he was back inside the room, he ninja'd his way in, and was trying to eat my crop yet again whilst I was telling my fiancee about her treacherous cat. This plant was producing well, but at least I get to try out the "cut and come again" technique on this particular breed of escarole. This will set me back about two to three weeks of re-growth time. Hope that blasted cat had his fill.

Organically Grown Giant Caesar Lettuce

This leafy green has the taste of a romaine with the texture of a butterhead lettuce, which creates a delicious salad green. Giant Caesar Lettuce is one of my re-occurring grows that I just cannot find myself straying away from. This lettuce has always produced for me, never had any dud seeds, and the taste is just so original that I cannot even find the same lettuce I grow at the market. I love it when I cannot find the same crop I grow at the market, that just goes to show there are always produce you can grow yourself that you cannot find anywhere else. Some people choose to go to the Farmer's Market.

¤  Thanks again for staying up to date with my grow-log! It's always fun to see progress and even better to show said progress. Until next time friends....

Organic Indoor Radishes: Half-way Grown!

Organically Grown French Radishes

Nothing is more amazing than a specific crop that only takes a month from germination to harvest to grow. Radishes are diverse in every culture and quite an abundant crop seen in the majority of households in several different countries. When you initially say the word radish to someone the first word to pop into their head will most likely be "daikon" which is a famous Japanese radish breed.

The type of radish I am currently growing is called a "French Radish". This radish is obviously commonly used in France and has quite a crisp taste when harvested on time. These radishes have been growing for about twenty or so days now, and should be fully ready in about a week or two weeks time. I grow my radishes so I can use them for salads or ramen. I just cannot eat ramen or udon for the matter without a radish in it, it just isn't right to me. Every ramen or udon I have had ever has always had a piece of radish in it or made with radishes in the stock.

For my spring garden I am thinking about getting a new type of radish to try to grow out there and see if there is truly a different taste between each other. I was thinking about either trying a daikon radish or a purple radish which would pop out on any dish. All in all it is so cool just to grow this crop and be able to continually harvest throughout the year with the right planting times.

Well that is it for today's update friends! These radishes are really bolting, soon I'll be posting about harvesting them and making a video out of it. Thank you yet again for reading and staying current with my grow-log and me! Until next time....

Indoor Garden Solo Cup Update: End of Week 3

Indoor Organically Grown Herbs, Tomatoes and Peppers

Yet another week has passed us by and my indoor organic garden is looking greener by the day. All this growth is just making me excited to start getting on the ball with my outdoor organic spring garden. I will soon be thinning out and transplanting my peppers and tomatoes so they can all have enough space to grow correctly instead of being crammed together in one cup.

Organically Grown Garlic Chives, Christmas Basil, Italian Oregano, German Thyme, Common Sage, and Giant Italian Parsley

You wouldn't believe how pungent these herbs are, it is quite ridiculous to say the least. My Garlic Chives aren't propagating as quickly as I would like them to, but patience is what gardening is all about. Considering how fast all of these herbs are growing, I would say that maybe in about three to four weeks from now these plants will have an amazing root system developed in these Solo Cups. I am going to be planting these on the outskirts of my raised garden beds to promote bees to come to my wonderful garden.

Organically Grown Carnival, Italian Pepperoncini, Giant Yellow Monster, and Early Jalapeno Peppers

These peppers are going to be quite the treat once I am able to harvest from them. I chose a diversity of colors and heat so that I have a variety of uses for them. Each pepper will mature at different times, which makes harvesting at different intervals key. Sometimes I let my peppers sun-dry on fishing line and crush them for later as a spice or use them for organic garden bug spray. (Only if it is a hot pepper)

Organically Grown Blue Beauty, Roman, Bloody Butcher, Super Italian Paste Tomatoes

You barely see any vegetable gardens without tomato plants, they are a key staple. We use tomatoes to a variety of culinary uses with recipes from all around the world. Some of these tomatoes are different colors and sizes. I love growing "paste" size and cherry sized tomatoes, they make an ideal snack. These guys will be transplanted outside once they reach about two feet in height. Once spring comes, be on the look out! You'll see my tomato plants grow four times their original size!

Well that is it for this update friends! Thank you for staying with me through my grow-log and my plants wonderful maturing journey. Hope it has been as much fun for you as it is fun for me. Until next time friends....
